Summer Creek High School opened in August 2009 as Humble ISD's newest high school campus, and celebrated an active first year with a wide variety of campus organizations designed to get students involved.

Band, choir, orchestra and theater kept students busy with a broad mix of performances, productions and competitions. Journalism students explored photography, newspaper and yearbook production, as well as online news applications. Debate, FFA, color guard and drill team also kept students active.

Summer Creek parents cheered on their fighting Bulldogs in a full complement of sports activities, including baseball, basketball, track, golf, soccer for boys and girls, softball, swimming, tennis, volleyball and football, which is expected to fare well for a new program during its first year of varsity play in 2010.

Summer Creek also is keeping students busy during the summer, with a range of sports camps and other activities.

"It is very important for students to be involved," said principal Trey Kraemer, former principal of Sterling High School. "It is our goal to build a community for students where they can explore a range of activities and discover what excites them."

Summer Creek is a $71.6 million campus that opened for grades nine and 10 in 2009 and will add 11th grade in 2010 and 12th grade in 2011. The first graduating class will be in 2012. With 435,000 square feet, Summer Creek is built to serve 3,200 students, and includes a fine arts auditorium, natatorium, career and vocational facilities, food court and learning resource center. Other campus highlights include a black box theater and an industrial kitchen that is home to the district's only culinary arts curriculum. Several computer labs are now in operation, with more to come. Also in use are four open-air labs within the building where teachers can conduct classes when they need a larger space.

Summer Creek is arranged in several small learning communities where students spend the majority of their time attending core academic classes of English, math, science and social studies. The smaller groups allow house principals, counselors and teachers to personalize learning for students.

The campus is located within five miles of Fall Creek on a 67-acre site on the southwest side of Beltway 8 near the extension of W. Lake Houston Parkway.
