You, too, can be the “Life of the Party” – or at least part of an important fundraiser slated this fall at the master-planned community of Fall Creek, which is surrounded by Redstone Golf Club.

This gala event will do much more than inject life into the Houston party scene, however. All profits from event ticket sales and sponsorships will benefit the Dr. Marnie Rose Foundation, established in memory of Dr. Marnie Rose, a University of Texas-Houston Medical School pediatric resident at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, who starred in the critically acclaimed ABC reality television series, Houston Medical, to raise awareness of brain cancer. Tragically, Dr. Rose died from complications of brain cancer five weeks after the show’s final episode aired in August 2002.
Since its 2003 inception, the Dr. Marnie Rose Foundation has raised over $850,000 through its annual Run for the Rose/Ridin’ for the Rose events. Funding benefits an immunotherapy clinical trial at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and initiatives at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, including the creation and development of the Pediatric Palliative Care Program and Marnie’s Garden in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and the Rose Pod (a pod of pediatric rooms). The 2007, the foundation’s funding for Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital’s is earmarked for the first Life Flight helicopter specifically outfitted for pediatric patients.
Also supporting the event is a host of honorary co-chairs who have good reason to wholeheartedly champion brain cancer research and pediatric initiatives:
Rhonda and Dr. Sam Hassenbusch: Dr. Hassenbusch is a brain cancer survivor and the M.D. Anderson neurosurgeon who operated on Dr. Marnie Rose. As part of his treatment, he was the first patient to combine the immunotherapy protocol funded by the foundation with the brain cancer drug Temodar.
Dr. Kelly DeScioli, her husband, Michael, and her parents, Michelle and Dave Feavel: Dr. DeScioli is a Baylor College of Medicine pediatric resident at Texas Children’s Hospital and a brain cancer survivor.
Alison and Craig Cordola: Craig Cordola is chief executive officer of Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital.
